Homelessness Prevention Specialist

Summary:

 The Homelessness Prevention Specialist will provide support services to participants of the Homelessness Prevention Program.  This position will offer mediation, flexible financial support, and targeted referrals to families in imminent danger of becoming homeless.  In addition, this position will provide general case management services to clients seeking Homeless Prevention and Diversion Services.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for processing requests for Prevention and Diversion Services.
  • Provide referrals to outside providers when participants do not qualify for AHA-administered funds, or when all AHA’s funding has been disbursed.
  • Handle intake and assessment calls and callbacks.
  • Conduct interviews and assessments leading to program qualification.
  • Provide case management as required to ensure participants are able to comply with funder requirements.
  • Explains procedures and actions taken, responding to applicants’ requests for information or desire to reapply after denial.
  • Maintain relationships with other service providers and participate in planning and service coordination meetings and activities as needed.
  • Represent the AHA at any community service provider and other meetings as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associates or two years’ equivalent experience is a plus.
  • Knowledge of interviewing methods to elicit applicant eligibility information.
  • Knowledge of the problems of and services for people facing financial difficulty.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and apply policies and procedures.
  • Ability to conduct information-gathering interviews.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to accurately compute budgets.
  • Ability to enter data into the EmpowOR database
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of information.
  • Valid NJ Drivers’ license.
  • Familiarity with Google Workspace (google mail, chat, meet)
  • Individuals with lived experience of homelessness are encouraged to apply.
  • Must have a current Mantoux test.
  • Covid 19 vaccinations are highly recommended.

Hours: Full-time
FLSA Status: Non-exempt
