NJ Housing Affordability crisis confirmed by new poll

A new Rutgers-Eagleton Poll reveals what many NJ residents already know—housing has become increasingly unaffordable.

📊 The numbers:

51% say housing is unaffordable

63% spend over 1/3 of income on housing

76% of renters struggle more now than 2 years ago

💰 The solution? 63% of New Jerseyans support preserving the NJ Affordable Housing Trust Fund for its original purpose—creating affordable homes. This Fund, generated from property sale fees, has:

Invested $120+ million in affordable housing

Generated $2.45 billion in economic activity

Created 12,500+ jobs

Built 4,730 affordable homes

But now it’s at risk of being diverted to other programs in the state budget.

Our CEO Randi Moore shared the real impact: “We received 120 applications for just 10 units in our Millstone development. That’s a real reflection of the incredible need in our community. We have a constant stream of people who cannot keep up with rising housing costs.”
